DOG-OWNERS are hoping their pets will be judged top dog when they compete at Crufts this weekend.
The event, held at the NEC Birmingham from March 4 to to 7, will see 20 dogs from this area competing in different breed classes from Irish Setters to Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Among the entrants is Fiona Wensley, from Gossington. She has entered her two-year-old Brittany, Sis Goldbraid, also known as Vana.
Mrs Wensley said: "She was top puppy last year but I have entered her in the field trial class this year and I think she will be the only Brittany entered.
"To qualify for this class you have to have been given a field trial award, which she got in December. I have my fingers crossed that she will do very well. She was reserve in the best bitch class at the Brittany club show last week."
During the four-day event 21,622 dogs from 22 countries will compete in 2,000 classes for the coveted Best In Show title.
Caroline Kisko, secretary of the Kennel Club, said: "The Kennel Club is extremely pleased with the 2004 entry, which is the third highest entry ever. The figure re-affirms Crufts as the biggest dog show in the world."
