Wotton Rovers 3 DRG Stapleton 1
WOTTON Rovers manager Jake O'Neill has been driving home the self-belief lesson to his side and the signs on Saturday were that it is working.
The attitude was good, they worked hard, and the individual skills of basically good footballers shone through.
"It was spot on," said O'Neill, "with the right result."
Wotton started strongly right from the gun. They missed a good early chance but on 15 minutes, after being brought down, Mike Shaw delivered a quality free kick right onto the head of Tom Price who buried the opportunity.
Playing down the slope, the home team upped the tempo further and scored a second goal when Shaw started a move down the right, with his cross dropping for the on-fire Clements to fire home into the bottom corner.
Two or three good chances were missed second half, but at least they were being created.
Two subs were introduced and Stevie Nicholas seized on a ball falling for him in the box and calmly tucked it away, and it was game over.
There was no doubt that this was an encouraging performance from enigmatic Rovers, with confidence returning and now showing all the way through the team.
Wotton face a tough game this Saturday when they travel to Taverners. "We will be happy to get anything there," said O'Neill, "but it will be nice to lock horns with our good friends at Tavs."
