Inspectors satisfied with school

A SATISFACTORY standard of education is being provided at Charfield Primary School, according to OFSTED, which inspected in January.

The inspectors found the school had a very positive and happy ethos, providing a good curriculum with a very good range of extra curricular activities.

OFSTED noted: "Pupils with special needs are well looked after and the provision helps them to achieve well - also, the school makes good provision for the personal development of pupils which results in them being mature and sensible."

It also found: "Parents feel their children are happy and are helped to succeed; pupils enjoy lessons and feel the school does everything it can to help them do well."

The inspection team reported the most important things the school should do are: improve the achievement of children in the reception classes; ensure all pupils achieve as much as they can in years one and two; make more use of performance data to track how well pupils are doing and to address under-achievement; improve standards in religious education.

The school is drawing up an action plan to address these points.

Headteacher Stefan Frontczak said: "I would like to thank all the pupils, parents, teaching and non teaching staff and governors for all their help and support in making Charfield Primary School the positive place it is today.

"The school works hard to continually improve itself and many of the findings in the report have already been identified through our own self-evaluation processes. These are now being addressed in our five-year strategic plan, which OFSTED noted 'provides a clear agenda'."

Peter Beresford, chairman of the governors, said: "The headteacher and staff have the full support of the governing body and we thank them for their effort and enthusiasm and their very professional approach to educating our pupils."
