Blaze causes severe damage to Dutch barn

FIRE ripped through a barn in Sharpness causing severe damage and destroying tonnes of straw.

Fire crews were scrambled to the five-bay Dutch barn in Saniger Lane around 1.50pm on Wednesday last week.

The two Dursley crews found the barn, measuring around 20 by ten metres, was well alight and around 60 tonnes of straw inside the barn was fuelling the flames.

Crews were detained for some time at the scene and part of the roof of the barn collapsed during the fire.

A police spokeswoman later confirmed officers are treating the cause of the fire as "doubtful" and are appealing for any witnesses to contact Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
