Memory of Delkin

SIR - I was rather surprised to see that Cam Parish Council found the name Delkin to be "absolutely appalling".

To me it conjures up happy childhood memories. The Delkin , which runs from Ashmead Green to Teetotal Valley, was our exploratory jungle and the stream which flows from the top of Cam Pitch to Spouthouse Lane, which we rightly or wrongly, also called the Delkin, gave us many enjoyable times. The greater part of the latter one has since been covered over by the Summerhayes estate.

As far as I know, the Ewelme and Cam respectively flow to and from the Lister Petter site. I didn't realise that there was another Delkin stream there as well.

Is it really necessary to have the name Lister included in the name of the site? By all means, have some sort of link with the naming of the roads, but not Listerville please. How about Ewelme, or wouldn't the council like that name either?
