Rescue from canal

A HORSE and rider had a lucky escape after plunging into the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Frampton-on-Severn near Splatt Bridge House around 12.25pm last Thursday after reports that a horse and rider had become trapped in the canal.

Crews from Stroud, Gloucestershire and Tewkesbury attended and found the female rider had been rescued ahead of their arrival.

The woman was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment to her injuries.

Crews were detained for around 15 minutes releasing the trapped horse, which was rescued.
