Lister limelight

SYNWELL Boxing Club hosted its very own open boxing tournament on Saturday, with the club's fighters putting in a fine showing against boxers from across the country.

The fight night was held at Lister Hall in Dursley and, in front of a vibrant atmosphere, a thrilling display of boxing was put on, with the Wotton-under-Edge club seeing all of its fighters make a good account of themselves.

There were 15 bouts in all, with seven involving Synwell boxers.

In the schoolboys section, Jimmy Tyrer beat Daniel Shaw of Coventry on points, Ashley Cauldwell got the better of Tony Williams (from Mylon) on a majority decision, and then Lee Heal narrowly lost a points decision to John Burge, from Cleeve.

In the junior section, Jonathan Scott stopped Bristol's Ricky Nutt in the third round of their contest.

Then, in the senior section, Danny Sosuso lost a points decision to Craig Amos of Kingswood, before the super heavyweights took centre stage.

First, Ryan Bell stopped Neil Baker (Brighton) in the third before the former ABA great Greg Lee stopped Steve Read (also from Brighton) in the third round of their contest.

All in all, a cracking night of ring action was played out in Dursley, with a fervent atmosphere enhancing further the blossoming association between Synwell Boxing Club and Lister Hall.
