Wotton Rovers 3 Old Georgians 1
"THIS was our best performance of the season so far," said Wotton boss Jake O'Neill. "We played really well."
Rovers were 2-1 up by half-time and it could easily have been five or six. They found themselves a goal down on 15 minutes, though, when a corner into the box was struck home.
But Wotton settled themselves and created a couple of good chances before equalising, again through a corner, with Lee Pritchard calmly taking advantage of the opportunity that came his way.
Rovers were now on top and a run down the wing by Mike Shaw was followed by a good cross for Steve Nicholls to head home for a half-time advantage of 2-1. Rovers' dressing room had an air of confidence during the interval, and the message was "stay focused and carry on the same'.
They did just that, but missed chances meant that there was 30 minutes of 'edge of the seat' stuff before Mike Shaw made the game safe for Wotton when he went past one or two players to score a good individual goal for the 3-1 victory.
"We have now moved up to fourth from bottom," said O'Neill, "and have pulled two or three other teams into the fight. The whole squad did well today and we are moving the right way at the moment."
Wotton are away to AXA this Saturday and hoping to continue their improvement.
