Speed cameras not in focus

A RUMOUR about plans to put a speed camera in Wotton's main street has been dispelled by Cllr Dr John Cordwell.

An entry on the town's community website discussion board accused councillors of being 'spoil sports'.

Cllr Dr Cordwell responded: "This comment wasn't made on April 1 by any chance, was it?"

On a more serious note he explained: "Speed cameras are only installed at accident spots, particularly if there have been fatalities."

But he admitted concern about speeding by some people in Wotton and hoped Gloucestershire County Council's plans to install raised platform areas for people to cross roads would also help to slow traffic down.
