Dursley Town 5 Staunton & Corse 6
"WHAT a game," said Dursley manager Julian Davies. "I woke up on Sunday morning wondering if it really happened."
This remarkable game produced 11 goals, with two final scores from Staunton & Corse levelling and then winning the game for them.
Dursley took the lead after just five minutes, courtesy of an own goal by Staunton, before the visitors replied with a deflected shot into the Dursley net.
Martin Booth put Town into a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes but almost straight away Staunton levelled, when a player was left unmarked at the far post.
Staunton went 3-2 up after 25 minutes before Dave Trinder equalised, but then went 4-3 ahead just before half-time.
It was now getting difficult to keep a track of the goals. Staunton scored another two in the first 10 minutes, before Rich Gillingham produced two for Dursley, the first from a free-kick and the second with a 20 yard shot, for 5-6 to Dursley.
But Town were choked when Staunton came back with two further goals for a 6-5 victory.
The irony was that for the final 25 minutes the goals dried up, leaving Dursley to wonder just what had gone wrong.
"It was just one of those games," said Davies, "with both teams scoring virtually every time they went forward. Now we put it behind us and concentrate on winning our next fixtures."
This Saturday Dursley are away to Newent, a team they beat 3-1 a couple of weeks ago.
