GLOUCESTERSHIRE Scouts took to new heights last weekend as they joined in two days of aeronautical activities.
The 30 Scouts from across the county took part in the event - aimed at introducing 11 to 18-year-olds to a range of aeronautical skills.
The flying weekend at Calcote Peak airstrip, near Bibury, was organised by the Scout Association in partnership with the Public Flying Association.
The Scouts studied safety at airfields, aircraft instrumentation, aircraft controls and handling, navigation and metrology.
A variety of aircraft were at the airstrip to help them experience the excitement of powered flight.
Scout Association Gloucestershire county commissioner Joan Goldsmith said the event encompassed the aim of the Scouting movement to help young people get the most out of life.
"Scouting aims to provide young people with a varied, challenging and enjoyable programme of activities to help them really get the most out of life," she added. " This weekend combined the tradition activity of Scout camping and cooking with the opportunity to try something new.
"Some of the Scouts taking part had never been in an aircraft before, and for them it was a real adventure, while for others it was a chance to develop an existing interest in powered flight."
