Sharks hungry for a top three finish after win

Sharpness 4 Chalford 2

SHARPNESS gained a deserved victory over Chalford to keep themselves in with a realistic shout for a third place target.

By half-time they had amassed a 4-1 lead. Mike Sherman set things rolling with goals on 5mins and 10mins, both headers from Matt Curtis crosses.

On 20 minutes a ball over the top from skipper Dave Nash sent Ian Watkins on his way for 3-0.

Sherman missed an opportunity to make it four when he put the ball over the bar.

Chalford pulled a goal back on the half-hour with a near post header from a corner but straight after, Mattie Frankham took advantage of a goalkeeping mistake to sidefoot into an empty net for a half-time score of 4-1.

With the wind behind them, Chalford came on strong in the second half and reduced the deficit through their centre-forward.

With 30 minutes still remaining further scores looked likely but Frankham missed a penalty and Watkins missed an empty net when he hit the bar from a yard out.

Chalford also pressed but there were no further chances and the score remained 4-2.

On Saturday, Sharpness are away to second-placed Warden Hill for what looks likely to be a tough game.
