A musical treat for the silver screen

A PRIZE-WINNING Welsh male voice choir is coming to Wotton on Saturday, May 22, for a concert to raise money for the town's cinema project.

Chepstow Male Voice Choir's Musical Director Brian Howard is promising a musical treat, with songs to suit all tastes.

In recent years the 40-strong choir has performed in prestigious venues including Wells Cathedral, Cardiff's St David's Hall and Bath Abbey.

"We are delighted and honoured that Chepstow Male Voice Choir is supporting us by freely giving this concert," said Electric Cinema Company chairman, Jeff Walshe.

The choir agreed to come after being approached by choral enthusiast David Giles, of Wotton Film Society.

Jeff added: "There's already a real buzz in Wotton about this event - tickets are already selling fast, so I would advise anyone who is thinking about coming to book soon."

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are available from the Cotswold Care Hospice shop, Long Street, priced £7 (£6 concessions) in advance or £8 (£7 concessions) on the door.

Mr Howard said: "We always try to give a good mix, from male voice favourites to lighter numbers, such as sea shanties and songs from shows.

The programme for the concert in Wotton will include a traditional hymn sung in Welsh, a popular arrangement of Elvis Presley's American Trilogy and songs from Cats and Les Miserables.

Soloist for the concert will be soprano Eileen Chesworth, who is also one of the choir's accompanists. The other will be Rosemary Lewis.
