Moonwalking the night away

A GROUP of school staff will be stripping down to their underwear and walking throughout the night in aid of charity next week.

The seven from the Vale of Berkeley College will be joining 15,000 others in London next Sunday for the Playtex Moonwalk.

The annual night-time event, which leaves Hyde Park at midnight, will see competitors donning decorated bras to take part in the marathon in aid or breast cancer care and research.

Walker Della Squire said the group thought it was a particularly worthy cause.

"We wanted to do our bit," she added. "We have been practising since January and have gradually increased the number of miles we cover each week. We are confident that we will complete the 26-mile course."

Mrs Squire is no stranger to the late-night walk - having taken part in 2001.

"I really enjoyed it last time," she added. "This year my 13-year-old daughter, Beth, is joining us and I am really proud of the commitment she has shown."

The group has already raised over £250 through a cake sale and non-uniform day in the school and colleagues, friends and family are sponsoring the walkers.

The group is appealing for more sponsors and a possible donation of a mode of transport to get the walkers to London.

Mrs Squire added: "We have a minibus tested driver ready to transport us but are currently having to hire a minibus, so we would particularly like to hear from anyone who would lend us one."

Anyone wanting to sponsor the Vale of Berkeley team is asked to make cheques payable to Walk the Walk Worldwide and can be send them to the Vale of Berkeley College, Wanswell, Glos, GL13 9RS either before or after the event.
