'Maths of the Day' is the key to promotion

THE TITLE race in Division Two of the Northern Senior League reaches its climax tonight with a thrilling double header.

Cam Bulldogs travel to Newent Town for the second time in seven days following Saturday's postponement due to there being no referee, while league leaders Bourton Rovers visit Bishops Cleeve Reserves.

With Cleeve slipping up at home to Mitcheldean on Tuesday the two likely promotion spots on offer have gone to Bourton and Cam, but the destination of the title is yet to be decided.

Rovers have the title in their own hands and a victory at Cleeve this evening would give them the championship.

However, should Bourton lose or draw then the Bulldogs, who have a superior goal difference, could snatch first place with a win of their own.

Should Stuart Grimwood's side fail to beat Newent then Rovers will win the title regardless of their result against Cleeve.

As this summer will see the biggest upheaval in non-league football since the formation of the Conference, exact promotion and relegation details are hard to confirm at the moment as many leagues wait to see how the reshuffle will affect them.

Berkeley Town will be especially interested in the re-organisation as a third team may yet be able to gain promotion behind Bourton and Cam.

The only way that Berkeley can be beaten into third place is if Cleeve win their final two matches, at home to Ruardean yesterday and Bourton tonight, by a combined goal difference of +24.
