Help us find fund name

TORTWORTH COURT Four Pillars Hotel and the Gazette are teaming up to provide a new charity partnership.

Fundraising will begin with an antiques day at Tortworth on Sunday, July 11 (11am-5pm), featuring both a sales event with major stands and roadshow-style valuations.

But first, explained editor David Cullimore, a name is needed for the fund.

And readers are being invited to come up with suggestions, with the sender of the chosen title winning dinner for two at Tortworth Court.

Later in the year organisations in the Gazette circulation area will be asked to apply for a grant from the proceeds of the weekend, which will be generated by entrance fees and stall-holders' fees.

"The Gazette is already helping charities through the twice-yearly Gannett Foundation awards scheme ," said Mr Cullimore, "and we are delighted to be associated with Four Pillars in launching another scheme which will also benefit groups in our area.

"The first event promises to be a day of real interest and entertainment, with a chance to get those curios and heirlooms, which all of us have, valued and also to browse around the lots of sales stalls."

Oxford-based Four Pillars Hotels has for some years run a successful charity partnership with Fox FM radio station.

Darren Townsend, general manager of Tortworth Court, said: "Four Pillars Hotels works with many charities in the Oxford region and feels it is extremely important for business to support local charities. We have raised a substantial amount over the past few years and are confident that the excellent relationship we have built with the Gazette will enable us to help and support local charities at Tortworth Court."

The stands event is being organised by Fat Cat Fairs, of Lechlade and Burford.

Another joint Gazedtte-Four Pillars event being planned for October is a Books for Schools event.

The public will be asked to look out unwanted books for a mammoth sale at Tortworth Court, with schools applying for grants to fund new books which they need.
