You lost - deal with it and move on

SIR - At last, named and shamed they back down. What is it with Stroud District Council and the No vote regarding housing transfer? When are they going to stop acting like a lot of pre-school children who have lost their mummies, and start acting like rational grown-ups.

They had the vote, they lost, so why try blaming Hilary Fowles for their failure to secure what they wanted? All Hilary did was to support her constituents in the way she saw fit. So why do the Tory Five and the Lib Dem One not accept the fact that she is a good and popular councillor - are they jealous of her popularity? I suppose they will continue to hound her with the Standards Board.

Why can't they simply face the fact that she never lied to them or anyone. Perhaps this is their problem - maybe if she had lied to her constituents and supported the transfer, then she would have not been harrassed like she is being now. Is this the future of Stroud and district, if you want to become a councillor

I say three cheers for Hilary, and let's hope there are many more councillors who have the conviction of their office, and are willing to stand up and be counted. Leave her alone and forget the defeat. There were many who opposed the transfer and it showed in the voting, despite the pressure from the council to vote their way or else take the consequences. Let decency and right prevail.
