MEMBERS of the South Cotswold branch of the British Heart Foundation have kept their finger on the pulse by raising more than £18,000 in the past year.
Treasurer David Langdon told the recent branch annual meeting that a total of £18,313 had been sent to the foundation.
This amount was made up from various sources ranging from In Memoriam to the sale of pickled onions.
The Ship Inn, at Upper Framilode, donated just over £1,000 last summer after a whole week's fund-raising, while nearly £500 came from collecting boxes which are distributed in the area.
The branch successfully launched the current year of fund-raising with a concert by The Colwell Arts Concert Band at Standish Church. This was well attended and raised just over £630.
Group secretary Elizabeth Mitchell said: "We have several fund-raising ideas up our sleeve and we aim to raise even more money this year."
The British Heart Foundation carries out vitally important research into heart disease and the work carried out by their local branches is absolutely invaluable.
As well as supporting this core aim, the South Cotswold branch has also provided funds to purchase life-saving equipment such as ECG monitors and defibrillators, to local practices.
Fund-raising relies entirely upon the public's generosity. Anyone wishing to make a donation or give time to fund-raising should contact Elizabeth Mitchell on 01452 720767.
