Oldlands are ecstatic

Cam 1st XI v Oldlands 1st XI

OLDLANDS claimed the local bragging rights after a 73 run victory at Cam. Batting first, the visitors lost a couple of early wickets but thereafter made solid progress.

Opener Savage made a half century, while Woolams (38) and Pennington (33) also contributed to what looked like being a very large total indeed.

However, not for the first time this season Pete Hall got Cam back into the game with four important wickets.

Ed Rendall also claimed four wickets including those of the last two batsmen in successive balls.

Oldlands reached 170 all out in 42.3 overs.

In reply the home side's opening partnership of Hall and Adam Holloway made a steady start, with Hall in particular looking in good touch.

But the Oldlands bowlers soon got to grips with the situation and Jones removed both men in quick succession.

Holloway edged to the slips for eight and then Hall was given out lbw for 27 to a ball that kept low.

Thereafter the Cam batting collapsed meekly as the next six wickets fell with no-one reaching double figures and three players failing to trouble the scorers at all.

A combination of poor shot selection and fast, accurate bowling from Jones, Walton and Thomas destroyed the home side's hopes.

Rendall and Laurent Moseley briefly put the brakes on Oldlands' momentum with 17 apiece, but when Moseley was last man out Cam had only reached 97 all out.

Cam bowling figures: Rendall 9.3-2-4-33, Holder 11-3-0-39, Tipper 10-0-2-62, P Hall 12-4-4-24.

Oldlands bowling figures: Walton 9-3-2-19, Jones 12-3-4-45, Thomas 7.2-2-3-16, Norcott 4-0-1-13.
