Watch out for the scarecrows

COALEY is hosting an open gardens event this weekend. It runs from 11.30am to 5.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Eight gardens will be open to the public, including vegetable gardens, cottage gardens, ponds and topiary.

The village hall will also be open, as the focus for the event. Visitors are asked to park cars there for the first gardens.

Refreshments, including soup, salads and teas, will be available throughout both days at the hall.

An art exhibition, featuring work by local artists, and craft stalls will also be open for visitors.

Entrance to all gardens is by programme at a cost of £3 - accompanied children are free, but no dogs will be allowed.

Organisers, who are raising funds for St Bartholomew's Church, Coaley, have also arranged a village scarecrow competition and visitors are encouraged to look out for the scarecrows.

A map showing locations of the gardens is printed in the programme.

Organiser Maureen Wibberley said: "The gardens are really lovely, in tip-top condition, and, together with the good food, it is all good value for money."
