Successful fete despite weather

RESIDENTS of a sheltered housing scheme battled against the elements to hold their summer fete on Saturday.

But the bad weather did nothing to dampen the mood of the people of Glebelands and manger Judith Healey, who co-ordinated the event, was delighted with the response and support they received.

She said: "The rain just didn't let up all day and we had to move everything inside but everybody who attended had a wonderful time."

Despite the rain visitors were able to enjoy strawberries and cream as well traditional cream teas.

Mrs Healey added: "Some of the outdoor activities had to be cancelled such as the skittles and boules but everybody had a great time sampling food from the barbecue and enjoying the various stalls."

The fete raised more than £500 which will be spent on activities for the elderly residents and improving amenities.

Mrs Healey said: "We recently built a water feature which everybody loves and we're hoping to use some of the money raised to further improve the garden and to take the residents on some trips."

She added: "I would like to thank everybody who helped organise the day and those who turned out to show their support."
