Suicide verdict for writer's son

THE TROUBLED son of well-known Glolucestershire writer Marcus Moore smiled as he ran into a moving lorry and died, an inquest heard.

Gaius Marcus Jack Moore, 32, of Uplands, Stroud, had suffered with depression and suicidal thoughts since his late teens.

Before killing himself on November 11 last year, he had cycled down a slip road on the M5 on October 23 but had decided against hurling himself in front of northbound traffic, the Gloucester inquest was told.

He was later arrested at the scene under the Mental Health Act and taken to a mental facility in Gloucester.

But just over a week later Mr Moore drove in his car and parked at the same spot, on the hard shoulder near Michael Wood Services at junction 13 on the M5 before running into traffic.

Coroner Alan Crickmore last week recorded a verdict of suicide.
