Pub aims to raise money for children

ONE of the oldest pubs in Gloucestershire is hoping to celebrate its 500th birthday by raising £500 for charity.

The Star Inn, once a coaching inn, in Market Street, Wotton-under-Edge, will be celebrating 500 years of service by hosting a mini beer festival and hopes to match the amount of money it raises with its age.

Proceeds will be given to the charity Children's Wish, which provides outings for terminally ill children.

Manager Lita Ralston, who is also celebrating just over 15 years of running the pub, is sure that the day will appeal to everyone. She said: "It's going to be a great day out for all the family."

The festival, which runs from mid-day till late on Saturday evening, July 10, will include a barbecue, beer-tasting competitions and live entertainment, as well as a bouncy castle and face-painting for children.
