Renishaw reaps the rewards

RENISHAW plc has received further recognition of its contribution to UK business success.

Last weekend, the company was presented with The Queen's Award for Enterprise 2004: Innovation. This is the tenth Queen's Award the company has received since 1979.

Henry Elwes, Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, presented the award and the Gloucestershire County Council's chief executive, Joyce Redfearn, read a citation.

Sir David McMurtry, Renishaw's chairman and chief executive, and Andrew Harding, representing the company's machine tool products division, accepted the rose bowl on behalf of the company.

At the end of the last financial year, Renishaw plc had 1,200 employees in the UK.

Renishaw's business is metrology, the science of measurement, with innovative products that ensure exacting specifications are met with cost-effective methods, performing measurement to international standards.

The new award was for Renishaw's OMP40 probe for automated job set-up and component inspection on computer numerically controlled machine tools.

The headquarters of Renishaw plc is at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge, with additional manufacturing facilities at Old Town, Wotton, Woodchester, near Stroud, and at Swords, near Dublin, Ireland.

Sir David McMurtry said: "The company is delighted to receive another commendation for one of its products. I'd like to pay tribute to all Renishaw's employees, overseas as well as in the UK, who have contributed to the success of the OMP40 probe worldwide."
