Stunning Summer Serenade

LYN JAMES was an inspiration to local musicians as she directed a stunning Summer Serenade evening concert on Monday .

Those taking part included Rednock School training orchestra, Rednock Junior Singers and invited guests who entertained over 90 people in St James' the Great Church.

Works performed by the youngsters in the orchestra included the Mull of Kyntyre, Yesterday, the Theme from Schindlers List to name but a few. Many solo performances took place as members of the orchestra entertained festival-goers.

Guest soloist Betty Page gave a beautiful mezzo soprano performance of songs including Such Lovely Things and Some Enchanted Evening.

Local musician Emily White gave performances on the trombone and violin.

The evening finished with a rousing I vow to thee my country by Holst when the audience was invited to join in with the orchestra and choir.

A retiring collection raised over £100 and this is to be matched with a donation from the Dursley Town Festival. The money will be donated to The Scoliosis Association that helps those diagnosed with curvature of the spine. One of the orchestra members is due to undergo surgery for Scoliosis shortly.
