Six years is the target

SIR - It is easy to scoff at Conservative councillor Nigel Studdert-Kennedy's claim that six years is not a long ,time to build a supermarket in Dursley.

This needs to be compared with other great engineering projects in recent years. OK, I admit that the second Severn Bridge took four years to build but readers should remember that it took seven years to build the Channel Tunnel and six years to build the Jubilee Line extension on the London Underground.

It is quite disgraceful that Dursley town councillors should expect Mr Studdert-Kennedy to explain why the project is taking this long. They should leave him alone to get on with it in the fullness of time.
