Big trip down under

A GROUP of sixth form students and staff from Rednock School is on a monthlong trip to Australia.

The group of 12 students and three teachers set off on July 9. During their trip they will spend time with students from their international link school - Mackay North State High in Mackay, Queensland.

Tim Harrison, science college co-ordinator, said: "The students will spend part of their time staying with host families and attending school. However it will not be all lessons.

"The students will be looking for duck-billed platypuses in the rainforest, snorkelling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef, looking for crocodiles in the wild, learning about the local sugar industry and having tuition in handling boats."

Students will also be spending several days in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

Rednock and Mackay North have been linked since 1992 and several visits by staff and students have taken place.
