Thrilling festival provides many a talking point

THE COMMITTEE of Dursley Town Festival 2004 met last week to discuss and celebrate the success of the festival.

The committee was also happy to note that events held during the festival helped raise funds for charities such as the James Hopkins Trust, The Scoliosis Association and the Royal British Legion.

Having brought a larger programme of events to the Dursley Town Festival than for some time, the committee is enthusiastic to build upon the position further for next year's festival. However more help is needed to ensure a larger programme can be delivered.

Some individuals and local organisations have already expressed an interest in being part of next year's events. But now is the time to build on this enthusiasm and plan the shape of next year's programme.

Not everyone likes the idea of formal committee meetings and to be involved does not require attendance. People can be part of the festival on any level - by giving just a few hours or management of a whole event.

The committee is holding an open evening on Thursday, July 29 (from 6pm) in the beer gardens of the Old Bell, Long Street. The event, which is open to all, offers a chance to socialise, get feed-back on this year's festival and plan for next year.

Joint chairman Sophie Shuttlewood said: "We hope to see lots of people on the night, but anyone who is unable to make that date but would like to ensure they are part of next year's events should contact me on 01453 548614 or email psm.shuttlewood@btinternet.com"
