A DURSLEY nursing home resident has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Irene Andrews, who lives at Kinver Grange Retirement Home, celebrated the occasion on Friday with friends and staff.
Mrs Andrews was born in Uley on September 24, 1904.As a child she lived in Dursley and went on to work in the former Champion's factory, at Reliance Works ion Long Street, where she wove the thread used to make the carpets.
In 1927 she married her husband Albert at Uley Chapel. The couple, who were married for nearly 60 years, met when she worked at the carpet factory.
Mrs Andrews, whose hobbies included knitting and sewing, said: "I had a lovely party with singers and a big cake. I had over 40 cards. Everybody was very kind."
