Work can forge ahead at the cinema project

A GENEROUS plumber has given his services to the Wotton-under-Edge cinema project free.

Kevin Morgan, from Kingswood, has stepped into the breach, enabling work to continue at the building after progress had been held up by a redundant central heating pipe, an old two-inch cast iron variety.

Project manager Alex Alliston-Greiner said: "Ancient pipes like these can be badly 'frozen' at the joints, but Keith kindly agreed to remove the offending pipe and reroute some other pipes.

"He also found time to look at the cinema heating system and found, to our delight, that all three boilers were functional and just required a thorough clean to be fully up and running for the winter months.

"We will be relying on the existing heating system at least for our first year of operation - we hope to secure additional funds once we are open to install a much more modern heating and air conditioning system.

"For those concerned about the old system being inadequate for the task, we have found the cinema auditorium lacks any thermal insulation in the roof void - we'll be installing this as part of the current refurbishment programme, which should improve matters enormously."

During the next two weeks Vince Howell, a builder from Wotton, will be carrying out some minor works at the cinema in Market Street.

These include blocking off two windows in the auditorium and a redundant door to the street, to improve thermal and sound insulation, and rectifying guttering at the rear to eliminate water seepage into the auditorium and old projection room.
