Alastair Bressington has admitted that his Gloucestershire cricket career could be over after he was told that the county are not in a position to offer him a contract.
Bressington, 24, said: "I'm not sure what is happening at the moment and it came as a complete surprise to me. Gloucestershire are looking to reinforce their pace attack and if they get someone in then the impression I'm being given is that I wont be offered anything."
Bressington played in the opening two County Championship matches of the season and the first-class fixture with Lougborough UCCE.
He has taken 17 wickets in all in his nine first-class matches at the club, with the highlight being the 4-36 he claimed on his debut against Glamorgan four years ago.
His best performance with the bat was an unbeaten 58 against Kent last April.
Despite the crushing news Bressington is keen to remain at Gloucestershire and added: "I would love to stay at Gloucestershire as I have been with the club since I was eleven, but I will be contacting other county sides and seeing what options I can explore."
