We need lots more books

THANKS a million! We have had tremendous support for our appeal for your old books but we would still like some more.

So please sort out all those unwanted ones.

The Twocando appeal, launched a few months ago by the Gazette and Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel, with active partnership support from Thornbury Lions Club, stages its first fundraiser - a book fair - in mid-October.

Collection has now begun in earnest and hundreds of volumes have already been handed in but many more are needed.

Good-quality second-hand hardbacks and paperbacks, both fact and fiction, are required for the sale.

A new drop-off point for donations is Wotton-under-Edge Civic Centre.

Others are The Castle School, Thornbury; Vale of Berkeley College, Wanswell; Chipping Sodbury School; Brimsham Green School, Yate; King Edmund Community School, Yate; Yate County Primary School, North Road, Yate; The Ridings High School, Winterbourne; Gazette head office, Long Street, Dursley; Gazette office, 34 High Street, Thornbury; Gazette office, The Barn Office, 73a Broad Street, Chipping Sodbury.

Proceeds from the sale at Tortworth Court Hotel on Sunday, October 17 (10am-5pm) will benefit schools in the Gazette area and bids will be invited for new book requirements.

Visitors to the fair, who will be entered in a free draw, are being encouraged to make a day of it, bring a picnic and tour the arboretum.
