DURSLEY'S motorcycle racer, Simon Knowlson, has again won the N G Motorcycle Club's coveted 600cc Championship on his George White Superbike sponsored Yamaha R6. He returned to the series again this year having first won the title in 2002.
In his last meeting at Pembrey he gained enough points to secure the title with two rounds still to go. It has been a memorable year with some very fast and close racing, especially at Donington, at the start of the season when the first five riders were separated by just 1.5 seconds at the line.
This trend of very close racing had continued all season and Simon has managed to be consistently on the podium through using a cool head and concentration, together with the faultless reliability of his Gary Vardy turned Yamaha R6 and Simon's meticulous preparation of the bike between each meeting.
Simon would like to thank George White Superbikes and Gary Vardy for all their support and help with the bike. Thanks also must go to his fiance, Sally Nash, for all her patience and to Leighton Stanley for all his help and to Simon's many friends who support him at race meetings.
Simon was at last weekend's (September 25/26) race meeting of the British Superbike Grand National at Castle Combe and will next race on October 9 at Silverstone.
