Top tips on recycling more

A DEDICATED 'meeter and greeter' is hoping to create a big impact at the county's household recycling centres.

Joe Davis, who has worked at the centres, is now helping boost already improving recycling rates by providing information to people using the centres.

He explained: "I am there to help everyone make the most of their visit to the centre. I really can help people increase their recycling and reduce the amount of waste they produce both at home and at work. People want to know they can make a difference and I am able to explain exactly what happens to everything that is recycled."

Gloucestershire County Council and Cory Environmental, which operates the centres on the council's behalf, have worked together to provide extra customer care training for all recycling centre staff.

Joe's new role is taking the initiative one step further. He is proving to be a valuable source of information for the public and is also gathering constant feed-back so that further improvements can be made to the county's five recycling centres, wich include Pyke Quarry, near Horsley.

Paul Galland, the council' head of service for waste management, said:: "I am very impressed by Joe and the way he greets customers. Our household recycling centres are key to improving our county's recycling rates and Joe is making a big difference by helping people understand how the site operates. A huge range of different products can be recycled - from engine oil to wood - and the more help people are given to make the most of the centers the better."

Over the next few months Joe will be making an appearance at all the recycling centres around the county.
