SIR - Please pass on my sincere thanks to all those companies and individuals who supported me, many for the second, third or fourth time in the Cancer Research UK's Race For Life, held at Bristol in May.
Yes, I know it's rather a long time ago now, but I have finally managed to gather in all the sponsorship money and get myself organised, which has resulted in a final sum of £309.50 going to Cancer Research UK. This year 400,359 participants entered 150 races nationally and currently we are on target to raise around £20 million!
The large majority of businesses that have kindly sponsored me are local and include:- Window Craft, Kenneth Bleaken Building Contractors, Cotswold Edge Carpets, Wotton Building Supplies, Wotton Accountancy Associates, Co-op (Wotton), Robinson's Florist, A. C. Partners, Wyecliffe Gallery, The Harvest Store, Mr. Tad, Hilary Fryer and PMC Solutions (Bristol).
I have to admit that running 5km at two in the afternoon in the blazing sun, is not really my bag. However, when I stop to consider the cause, the people that may well benefit from the work of Cancer Research UK in the future, and the generosity of the friends that have supported me, it puts things into perspective and fair brings a tear to my eye!
In a world where we live life at 90mph, it's heartwarming to know that there still are a lot of caring people around.
It's the fourth year that I've done the Race For Life. Just so that my sponsors don't get too bored, perhaps I'll try something different next year.
Any suggestions?
Grace Hanney, Court Orchard, Wotton-under-Edge
