SIR - In reply to a letter entitled Pick up your dog mess (Gazette, October 1), I would like to add to the comments made.
As one of the tenants who lives there 24/7 and also a payer of community charge, for almost 12 years now, this has been a issue with most of the tenants living within the Elstub Lane area.
We have had councillor after councillor out to the area and finally three years ago a "dog loo" and a litter bin erected outside of the school entrance. Some respectful dog owners use it, a small amount don't. Some of the tenants remove it themselves.
Yet we also have other issues that are not addressed. Parents parking for one. A small amount of parents illegally park on the zig-zag areas both in front of the schools main gates and in front of the garages which are plainly marked as No Parking zones and are plain enough to see.
There is no parking from the garages down to the school entrance and 100 yards past the school entrance. These areas were placed there for the safety of the children arriving and leaving school, yet some parents fail to respect the safety of their own children and others! And on a day to day basis abuse the rights of others.
Litter bins were also placed in front of the school gates yet as tenants we also see parents and children alike dropping litter with no regard for others living in the area.
Parents also bring their dogs to school and tie them up at the school entrance for up to half an hour at a time and these dogs are constantly barking their heads off. Maybe dog owners and parents should get together on this and bear in mind that they are only visitors to the area. We, the tenants, live here all the time.
Hear, hear, to the comments made - although I feel it will fall on deaf ears. Actions speaks louder than words.
