SIR - As a Dursley town councillor Jim Froggatt really should use his ears and eyes more effectively before criticising the road repairs carried out by the county council on Whiteway Hill (Gazette, October 8).
The numerous information sheets put on display by the county council explained exactly what work was to be undertaken, and when. The same information was given to anybody who called the local highways office.
Congratulations are in order for the county council, who have done exactly as they said they would.
The residents of Woodmancote now benefit greatly from reduced road noise and the surface of the road is far safer now for all users. Let us all hope that we have now seen and end to the practice of "resurfacing" by laying wet tar and loose chippings.
The town council should turn their attention to the dangerous state of the road surface and pavements of Silver Street. It can surely be only a matter of time before a pedestrian or child suffers a serious accident in this area that is unsuitable for the large lorries and recklessly-driven cars which now pass through Dursley.
