Woman is killed on railway line

A WOMAN has died on the railway line at Charfield early on Saturday.

Shortly before 6.15am the woman was struck by a passenger train as it passed through the village.

The 5.56am Gloucester-to-Plymouth train was travelling around 90mph when it struck the woman, who was standing near a bend on the track.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The driver of the train barely saw her and didn't have any time to brake.

"Emergency services then attended and a body was later removed. A report will be sent to the local coroner."

The identity of the woman has not been released on the request of her family, although it was confirmed that she was positively identified as a 38-year-old from South Gloucestershire.

No suspicious circumstances are suspected but anyone with information about the incident can contact the British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
