Six of the best from classy Cam

Tetbury Town Ladies 1 Cam Bulldogs Ladies 6

ANNIE Davis struck a hat-trick as Cam hit six goals on their way to victory over Tetbury.

The win was only their second of the season but was thoroughly deserved on the balance of play.

Tetbury actually settled the quicker of the two teams and breached the Bulldogs' new-look back line on several occasions in the first 15 minutes only to be let down by their finishing.

At the other end, Michelle Purse wasted an early chance but soon made amends by controlling a wonderful pass from Jenna Wood and driving a low shot into the net from ten yards for her first goal of the season.

The goal having settled the visitors, they added a second on the half hour when Davis chased a ball into the area, poked it past the goalkeeper and, taking advantage of a slip by a covering defender, tapped in from six yards.

The Bulldogs looked comfortable but had cause for alarm shortly before the break when goalkeeper Lina Elliott went down with a knee injury.

However, despite having her movement seriously limited, Elliott went out for the second half and continued to demonstrate her natural ability to play in her new position.

Indeed, it was from one of her kicks ten minutes into the half that the ball was played through for Davis to make it 3-0 with a cool finish.

Tetbury fought back though and Elliott was twice called upon to make important saves before finally being beaten by a shot that hit the post and the rebound was tucked away.

Town went hunting for a second but the Bulldogs tightened things up at the back as Sharon Griffin enjoyed her best game yet for the club while Michelle Stokes again worked tirelessly.

Cam then killed the game off with three goals in the final quarter of the match.

Lucy Bennett made it 4-1 with a good run and shot that went in off the post and then Purse found space in the area to stroke the fifth into the corner.

Confidence was flowing through the visiting side typified by Becky Millard having an excellent final 20 minutes, while opposite winger Jos Hanvey came close to the goal that her play deserved.

The sixth goal eventually arrived five minutes from time when Davis completed her hat-trick by lashing a loose ball home from eight yards.

Tetbury searched for further consolation but Elliott was in sparkling form and a fantastic improvised stop ensured that the five goal margin remained.
