AFTER the success of last summer's Dursley Town Festival, the committee is already arranging another memorable event for July, 2005.
The group's annual meeting in Dursley Town Hall on Monday heard that plans are in the pipeline for a marching band to lead a bigger carnival procession to the recreation ground where there will be more activities plus a giant marquee in case of bad weather.
The committee is also exploring a suggestion that a fire sculpture and carnival arts project, involving primary and secondary school pupils, can be organised in conjunction with Uley-based Prema Arts Centre.
Announcing that next year's festival week would run from July 10, with Carnival Day on Saturday, July 16, the new co-ordinator Phil Dee proposed a vote of thanks to retiring co-ordinators Sophie Shuttlewood and Patrick Blitz. Mr Dee said: "Sophie changed the format of the festival for the better and now we have to build on what Sophie has done."
In their report, Mrs Shuttleworth and Mr Blitz thanked committee members and individuals, including a large number of young people, who had helped to make the town festival a success.
"This was the biggest festival for some time and it delivered its promise of something for everyone," they said.
"There was once again a carnival procession and the Rosebud competition was rejuvenated. It was a great success because so many people pulled together and gave of their best.
"We hope 2005 will see another festival to remember."
While David Billett agreed to continue as festival treasurer, the committee is looking for a new secretary to replace Phil Dee, who is now co-ordinator. Anyone interested in finding out more about the role should contact Mr Dee on 01453 549392.
Any groups or organisations wanting to take part in Dursley Town Festival should ring Sue Jones on 01453 542686.
