Lychgate supported

A QUESTIONNAIRE sent out by Berkeley Town Council has shown residents to be in favour of refurbishing the Berkeley cemetery chapel/lych gate in Marybrook Street.

Seventy-eight of the 120 returned forms were in favour of the refurbishment.

The council had already decided it would not seek to have it demolished.

However, the responsibility for the building lies with the Berkeley Burial Board and its will have the ultimate say in what happens to it.

The four councils on the board would not like taxpayers' money to be spent on the building. This does not mean they favour demolition though, as that would still cost money.

The board will discuss the thoughts of the parishes before deciding what course of action to take.
