Big screen set to boost Gatcombe

THE Land Rover sponsored Gatcombe Novice and Intermediate Event, which takes place over Saturday and Sunday, will feature a full entry of riders on both days.

The good news is that all spectators on the Saturday can watch the John Smith's Grand National live from Aintree courtesy of Cantor Spreadfair, the world's most comprehensive spread betting exchange, who have helped erect a big screen at Gatcombe Park.

Starting at 9am on both days, the event will feature dressage, show jumping and cross-country phases running throughout both days.

The event attracts many interesting shops to the trade stand area, which will include the Gatcombe Collection. At various times during both days, HRH The Princess Royal will present prizes to the winners of each of the various sections.

The overseas riders competing at the event represent eight different countries, giving a truly international flavour to this popular riding extravaganza, with Ireland leading the charge with 13 entries.

Among the local riders will be Gatcombe Park-based Zara Phillips with six rides on Secret Legacy, Tsunami II, Red Baron, Ardfield Magic Star, Toytown and Springleaze Macaroo.

Now in its 12th year of running, the event takes place on a course designed by HRH The Princess Royal and her event organiser Pattie Foden.

This particular event utilises a different area of the Gatcombe Park Estate to that used by the Festival of British Eventing, which takes place in August.

L Gatcombe Park is situated at Hampton Fields, mid-way between Minchinhampton and Avening. The event will be signposted from both directions. Full information can be found on the event website, www.gatcombe-events.co.uk.

L The normal price of admission at the event is £5 for a car and occupants. Anyone presenting a copy of this week's Gazette will gain admission for £2, a healthy saving. This is for the Saturday only when the screen is in place.
