WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE Gardening Club held its annual spring show in the Civic Centre on Saturday.
Despite the late, cold Spring, members managed to put together a magnificent display of spring flowers, foliage and vegetables. There were also classes for preserves, baking, photography and flower arranging that were open to all, together with a children's handwriting and 'vegetable monster' competition.
The plant sale was very popular as usual and this year featured a fine collection of cacti and succulents donated by a Berkeley resident who was about to emigrate.
The Spring Cup (exhibitor with the most points) was won by Doreen Wakefield. Betty Stinchcombe won both the Durand Cup (most points in flower classes) and the Pierce's Cup (best exhibit in show).
The Jotcham and Kendall Cup (most points in vegetable classes) was won by David Wilson and the Mary Shellard Cup (best flower arrangement) was won by Pauline Scull.
The cup for children under seven was won by Fergus Davison and the cup for children between eight and 12 years was won by Jonathan Rosser.
The Gardening Club's next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 19 (7.30pm) in The Club Room, Gloucester Street, Wotton (opposite the Civic Centre car park. The subject will be Pruning and Composting and all are welcome. Call 01453 521598 for details.
