Couple agree to differ on Stroud candidates

A HUSBAND and wife from Dursley will be voting for different political parties when it comes to the General Election on May 5.

Michael Prodger, 62, will be voting for Conservative candidate Neil Carmicheal, while his wife Pat, 60, will be voting for Labour candidate David Drew.

The couple's home at Byron Close shows their difference of opinion on who should be Stroud's MP, with Labour posters displayed downstairs and Conservative posters upstairs.

Mr Prodger said: "I have always voted Conservative since I was able to vote. People have commented on the posters and ask if we can't make up our minds.

"I have never met Neil Carmichael but you don't need to meet a man to understand his views. I love politics and I have strong views on it."

Mrs Prodger said: "I think David Drew is a good MP and that is why I vote Labour. I think he does a lot for the community and he is always seen.

"A lot of people think we have done it for fun but we did it because we have got different views. People keep asking if there is any friction but it is all quite amicable.

"Our postman bought us poster for another candidate this morning, so he thinks we will have a full set by the end of the week."
