KATHARINE Lady Berkeley's School's U16s football team produced two top performances in one week to win a semi-final and then the final of the Stroud Schools Football Assocation Cup.
The team travelled to Cirencester to play Kingshill School in the semi-final and won a hard fought game 2-1 with goals from James Crossfield and Jamie Skuse.
Their opponents in the final, Maidenhill, had reached the final with a good win away at Dursley's Rednock School.
The cup final, played at Forest Green Rovers' home ground, The Lawn, was an entertaining game with both sides keen to attack.
KLB scored a well-worked goal from a set piece, with Richard Wyse driving the ball home with a clean strike. Maidenhill came back with an accurate free kick that floated over the KLB defence and was firmly headed in by Lewis Cook.
Strikes from Jack Addle and David Holman, after good approach play, took them to a comfortable 3-1 half-time lead.
Maidenhill came back strongly in the second half, forcing another goal from a long ball by Lewis Cook.
The scoreline remained at 3-2, and KLB were crowned the new champions. KLB School U16s squad: Fraser Newport, Nathan Flye, Tom Godsell, Richard Wyse, David Holman, Jamie Skuse, James Crossfield, Jack Addle, James Baldwin, Jack Kinnerley, Frank Hitchings, Gareth Eyers, Ben Murphy, George Eskins, Owen Hemsley, Adam Wildman.
