SHARPNESS have been celebrating this week after receiving their runners-up medals having finished in second place in the Northern Senior League.
Tomorrow, the Sharks are holding their annual presentation night at the Berkeley Arms, and there will surely be much to cheer about.
The club finished as runners-up in the Northern Senior League after a thrilling campaign, and this is now the second time in three years that they have been in a position to apply for promotion to the County League.
However, due to their facilities not being up to standard, promotion once again is not to be. Despite this disappointment, negotiations will continue with the local parish council and every effort will be made for the club to come back home to play in Sharpness.
The club now has a fund-raising committee specifically formed to raise money in the hope that this can be achieved.
The committee consists of some of the players, who have a number of projects on the table. They got off to a good start when 63-year-old life member Geoff Brown ran the 16-mile canal route from Gloucester to Sharpness, a feat which raised over £500.
It is now some 17 years since Sharpness left The Port, and during that time the club has produced many excellent players who have deserved the chance to have played at a much higher standard.
