WALKERS taking on a Three Peaks Challenge in the hills around Dursley have raised around £10,000 for a local man's memorial fund.
Seventy-six people took part to raise money for Ginge's Memorial Fund, set up in memory of Kevin 'Ginge' Fry, who died of cancer last year.
The walkers set out from the Kingshill Inn in Dursley on Sunday, May 1 and covered a route including North Nibley Hill, Stinchcombe Hill and Cam Peak.
Organiser Taff Evans said: "It was a brilliant day and we are all very pleased at the amount of money that we have made.
"Everyone finished in under four hours and we didn't get anyone stopping off at the pub half way round."
The memorial fund is a holding account and once all the money has been collected it will be distributed among various cancer charities.
Interest has already been shown in making the walk an annual event, while money has also been coming in from other fundraisers including a charity disco at the Kingshill after the walk.
Mr Evans added: "I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the walk and also those who acted as marshalls to guide people round."
