Young guns go for it at soccer extravaganza

Everside Youth Football Club Six-a-Side Tournament

EVERSIDE Youth Football Club held their annual six-a-side tournament over the weekend and, once again, the event was a huge success.

Held as always at the Jubilee Playing Fields in Cam, this year's extravaganza attracted over 80 teams who competed over the course of the two days.

The children who took part were aged between seven and 14, and the participating teams came from all across Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.

On the Saturday, it was the U8s and U14s who were on show first as the tournament kicked off at 9.30am. Then, in the afternoon, it was the turn of the U10s and U12s.

On the Sunday, the U7s, U9s and U11s took to the field to show off their skills on what was a fabulously sunny day.

As in previous years, there was some excellent junior football played and, of course, maybe some up-and-coming stars of the future on show.

Tournament secretary Karen Hobbs told the Gazette: "Everside would like to sincerely thank all the referees who freely gave up their time over the weekend.

"Also, a big thank you goes to the tournament sponsors, Millwood Mitsubishi.

Thank you also to all the Everside parents, committee members and squad managers and everyone who helped in many ways to make this once again a successful tournament.

"A mention must also go to the Gazette, who came along at the weekend to take photographs, which we really appreciate!"

RESULTS: U7s: Winners - Hardwicke, Runners-up - Frampton; U8s: Winners - Abbeymead Rovers, Runners-up - Yate United; U9s: Winners - Yate, Runners-up - Rodborough; U10s: Winners - Yate United, Runners-up - Frampton Youth; U11s: Winners - Eastcombe, Runners-up - Thornbury Falcons; U12s: Winners - Quedgeley Wanderers, Runners-up - Thornbury; U14s: Winners - Whiteshill, Runners-up - Stoke Lane.
