Stone look a class act at all levels

Stone 1st XI v Birdlip

ON Saturday Stone entertained Birdlip at Swanley. After two excellent wins the weekend before Stone were looking to continue the trend.

Captain Ian Hall won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Lavis and Turl settled in quickly and were playing some excellent shots. They put on 108 before Turl was caught for exactly 50.

This brought Booth to the crease to support Lavis. Lavis got to 50 shortly after the arrival of Booth but Booth didn't last much longer when he was bowled for just three.

Birdlip thought they had a chance of getting through Stone but the youngster Miles Palmer joined Lavis at the crease. Palmer took a while to settle but he soon started to show what a talent he his. Palmer played an excellent supporting role to Lavis who past his 100 in the 42nd over. Lavis and Palmer added another 100 partnership and Stone closed on 226-2. Pete Lavis 123no and Miles Palmer 31no.

After the tea interval Stone looked in good spirits and wanted to set about their task straight away. Sherman and Burley started the innings with great pace bowling making Birdlip five wickets down in the 11th over for only 50.

Stone were so tight in the field they eventually bowled Birdlip out for 95. Burley finished with the best figures of 6-1-14-3, other wicket takers were Sherman, Viney, Ian Hall (who had two wickets each) and Andy Hall getting one wicket.

Stone with a very impressive performance have another win in the bag and they hope to make it three league wins out of three when they travel to Ruardean Hill on Saturday.
