Crowds enjoy summer fun day

DURSLEY Primary School raised a record amount of money at this year's summer fair.

Takings at the fair came to more than £2,000, far exceeding the expectations of organisers at the Highfields-based school.

Headteacher Bill Church said: "It was incredibly successful. We raised £2,200, which we have never got anywhere near before.

"I suppose we got lucky with the weather because it didn't rain but it wasn't quite nice enough for people to go out elsewhere."

Mr Church thought that the inclusion of both a youth dance group called Go Bananas and a football tournament helped boost visitor numbers.

"We had more people than just the regular school community," he added. "But a lot of the parents worked very hard to prepare for the big day."

The bumper takings will allow the school to buy a lot of new equipment including outdoor play equipment for the youngest children and several friendship benches.
